OHHH Canada! Sharks Make National Teams
Toronto, On- Two Chatham Pools Sharks will be swimming for Team Canada as a result of their excellent performances at the Canadian Swimming Trials this past weekend at the Pan Am Pool in Scarborough. Trials is the highest level of Canadian swimming and brings together the absolute best of Canada to compete for spots on National Teams. This was an open age meet where swimmers are not divided by age, and also featured top swimmers from several other countries.
This year, Trials was the selection meet for several teams, including World Juniors and the Pan Am games. In order to be selected for a place on a team a swimmer had to be successful through several steps:
1. Swim fast enough to make a final- which is an accomplishment in itself 2. Swim under the FINA time standard- which are very fast times 3. Place in the top 4 for Pan AM and top 2 for World juniors (from those 18/u)
The Pan Am Games (swimming) will be held August 6-10 in Lima, Peru and World Juniors will be held in Budapest, Hungary from August 20-25.
Next up for the Senior Sharks are Eastern Canadian Championships in Quebec City.
The Chatham Pool Sharks is a local competitive swim club and currently has nationally ranked swimmers on the team, as well as many provincial and regional-level qualifiers. This is in addition to the SEAL developmental program offered for younger swimmers. For more information about the Chatham Pool Sharks visit www.chathamypoolsharks.com.
